Housing Choice Voucher Program

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program provides rental assistance to families who are income qualified. A qualified family receives a voucher that allows them to live anywhere they wish. The family pays a portion of the rent and utilities, up to a percentage of their income. The remaining balance is paid by the WHA with HUD funds.

The HCV application process is only open when funding and availability permit. The applicant family is then placed on a waiting list. Preferences on this waiting list are given to Westerly residents within various income categories ranging from very low to moderate. The Westerly Housing Authority can provide assistance for up to 198 families.
