Programs

The Westerly Housing Authority currently has three programs for providing housing assistance.


Public Housing – Elderly and Disabled

This program houses individuals who are income-qualified and 62 years old or older, and individuals who are disabled. The 110 units are located in the Park View Apartments at 9 Dixon Street and Chestnut Court Apartments at 5 Chestnut Street.

Preference is given to Westerly residents. There is a waiting list for this program.

Housing Choice Voucher

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program provides rental assistance to families who are income qualified. A qualified family receives a voucher that allows them to live anywhere they wish. The family pays a portion of the rent and utilities, up to a percentage of their income. The remaining balance is paid by the WHA with HUD funds.

The HCV application process is only open when funding and availability permit. The applicant family is then placed on a waiting list. Preferences on this waiting list are given to Westerly residents within various income categories ranging from very low to moderate. The WHA can provide assistance for up to 198 families.

Family Scatter units

Public Housing - Family Scattered Sites

This program provides housing to income qualified families. The apartments are contained in the homes held by the WHA and are scattered throughout the town of Westerly. The family pays a portion of the rent and utilities based on a percentage of their income.

Applications are only available when funding and availability permit. Westerly residents are given preference within the various income categories. The WHA has 13 units available in this program. There is a waiting list for this program.
